As National Volunteer Week celebrates the power of community and civic engagement, Localise Youth Volunteering is proudly spotlighting the inspiring efforts of young people making a difference across Ireland. From supporting local homeless services, to visiting hospitals and intergenerational projects, thousands of youth volunteers have stepped up to serve their communities by asking ‘Who in this community can I help? And how can I help them?’

Localise, which empowers young people to take action through meaningful service projects, has seen a surge in participation in their programmes during this year. Schools and youth groups involved in the Localise programme have been sharing their impact stories, highlighting the creativity, compassion, and leadership of Ireland’s youth.

A key feature of this year’s celebrations is the growing success of the National Youth Volunteering Portfolio (MyVP)—a digital platform that recognises and records young people’s volunteering efforts. Developed to give youth volunteers a meaningful way to track their volunteering contribution and development, MyVP has been instrumental in showcasing the impact of youth-led social action. MyVP has particular significance for young people when accessing the workforce and further & higher education.

Alongside MyVP, Localise’s Volunteering in Action programme continues to provide structured, accessible opportunities for young people to engage in purposeful community service. Through this programme, participants not only deliver impactful projects but also build key skills in teamwork, empathy, and leadership.

“Volunteering helps young people find their voice, build connections, and feel part of something bigger,” said Derek Cleary, Director of Localise. “This week is a celebration of their commitment to creating positive change, and we’re especially proud of how MyVP and Volunteering in Action are supporting young people to awaken the spirit of lifelong volunteering.”

As part of National Volunteer Week, Localise is encouraging more young people, schools, and youth organisations to get involved and discover at first hand the value of volunteering—not just for others, but for their own personal growth and wellbeing.
