Localise was proud to support the Transition Year students of Coláiste de hÍde, Tallaght, as they undertook a heartfelt project to recognise the extraordinary dedication of the Irish Cancer Society Night Nurses, a service that brings comfort, dignity and compassion to people across Dublin during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
The Night Nursing Service provides specialist end-of-life care in the home, offering families the gift of rest and reassurance while ensuring their loved ones are supported through the night. It is a service defined by kindness, expertise and an unwavering generosity of spirit.
Determined to give back, the TY students carefully prepared gift bags for every Night Nurse in Dublin, filled with tokens of appreciation to brighten their day and acknowledge the emotional and physical strength required in their work. Each bag was assembled with gratitude and thoughtfulness, an act that reflected not only the students’ creativity, but their deep respect for the nurses’ vital role.
Speaking about the students’ initiative, Oonagh O’Keeffe from the Night Nursing Service, expressed heartfelt thanks.
“Our Night Nurses walk with families through difficult and tender moments, and to know that young people recognise this work means so much. These gifts are a beautiful reminder that compassion inspires compassion. We are truly grateful.”
The project was a powerful example of empathy in action, young people choosing to honour unseen heroes in their community. It showed that meaningful service doesn’t always require grand gestures; sometimes it begins with noticing those who give so much of themselves.
Localise is inspired by the kindness and leadership shown by the students of Coláiste de hÍde. Their simple yet thoughtful act shines a light on the best of youth social action: generosity, awareness and a commitment to uplifting others.
