Kingswood Community College Students Bring Festive Cheer.
This festive season, students from Kingswood Community College rolled up their sleeves and brought the joy of Christmas to Suzanne House in Tallaght Village, preparing the sensory garden for a very special visitor, Santa Claus!
Suzanne House provides a welcoming and supportive environment for children with life limiting conditions and families in the local community and beyond, offering a range of respite, therapeutic and care for children with complex needs. Central to the experience is the sensory garden, designed to engage all the senses and provide a calm, inspiring space for children and families to enjoy.
As part of the Localise Classroom to Community Programme, students took part in a variety of hands on volunteering to ensure the garden was ready for the festive season. They painted garden furniture and sensory equipment in bright, cheerful colours, swept pathways, cleared fallen leaves, and weeded the flower beds. Twinkling lights were hung around the garden, and decorations were added to bring the magic of Christmas to life.
The students’ energy and creativity transformed the garden into a festive wonderland. Every corner sparkled with attention to detail, reflecting their commitment to creating a welcoming and joyful space for children and families. The colourful paint, seasonal decorations, and sparkling lights brought a cheerful atmosphere that made the garden feel ready for Santa’s arrival.
Beyond the physical work, the visit offered students a valuable learning experience. Through the Classroom to Community Programme, they gained skills in teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and communication while experiencing the satisfaction of making a tangible, positive impact in their community. Their efforts reminded everyone that volunteering isn’t just about helping others, it’s about connecting, contributing, and spreading happiness.
The preparation of the Suzanne House sensory garden is a wonderful example of how young people can engage meaningfully with their local community, combining festive spirit, hands-on effort, and heartfelt care. Thanks to the students from Kingswood Community College, the garden is now sparkling, welcoming, and officially Santa ready, ready to bring joy and holiday cheer to all who visit.
