This festive season, members of Marino Parish Localise, DCU Raising and Giving and DCU St. Pat’s Campus students brought sparkle, smiles and a whole lot of Christmas cheer to the Fairview Step Down Unit during a celebration aptly named “Winter Wonderland.”
Dressed in festive jumpers, Santa hats, reindeer antlers and enough tinsel to rival a Christmas tree, the young volunteers arrived full of energy and excitement. They came bearing sweets, treats and seasonal surprises, determined to make the day as joyful as possible for patients and staff alike.
The highlight of the visit was a lively round of Christmas carol singing, complete with enthusiastic hand actions, big smiles and some very questionable but highly entertaining dance moves from a 6 and a half foot Polar bear. The atmosphere quickly filled with laughter, warmth and that unmistakable festive feeling that brings people together.

“Winter Wonderland” was more than just a party, it was a chance to connect, to share moments of happiness, and to remind residents that they are an important and valued part of their community. The visit also celebrated the dedicated staff at the Fairview Step Down Unit, recognising the kindness and care they show every day.
As the final carol was sung and the last sweet unwrapped, one thing was clear: this Winter Wonderland left behind far more than tinsel, it left smiles, memories and festive cheer that will last long after the decorations come down.
