This festive season, members of the Lucan Girl Guides (CGI) brought joy and festive cheer to the residents of Griffeen Valley Nursing Home. As part of their volunteering programme, facilitated through Localise Youth Volunteering’s “Volunteering for All” initiative, the Guides engaged in carol singing, gift-giving, and spending quality time with the residents, creating warm and lasting memories.

What makes this initiative particularly innovative is how the Lucan Girl Guides have embraced Localise’s Volunteering for All programme, which provides structured opportunities for young people to get involved in meaningful community service. By participating, the Guides not only contributed to the wellbeing of the local community but also developed valuable skills such as teamwork, communication, empathy, and project planning, skills that will benefit them both personally and in future educational or career pursuits.

The partnership between the Lucan Girl Guides and Localise highlights the exciting opportunities available to youth organisations who want to make a positive impact. Localise’s programme is designed to support groups of all sizes, offering guidance, resources, and structured volunteering projects that can be tailored to meet the needs of both the volunteers and the community.

This Christmas visit demonstrates how young people, when given the right support and opportunities, can make a real difference in the lives of others. Localise encourages other youth-based organisations to explore the programme and discover how they too can create meaningful experiences for both their members and their communities.
