We had an amazing week filled with new experiences, and we got to learn a lot too. We wish we could come back next week!
Monday: On Monday, we visited Leo Street, a day care facility for the local elderly. We brought cakes with us and Charlie, another TY from Mount Temple, brought some bird boxes for the garden in Leo Street. It was really good fun because we got to sit and chat with the elderly and listen to their stories.
Tuesday: Tuesday we went planting trees in Fairview Hospital with Seán and some second years from Marino college. We enjoyed this quite a lot because we were doing something hands-on and we got to learn new things about plants and trees. It’s pretty cool to think the trees we planted could still be there in 50 years.
Wednesday: Wednesday was very fun. We got to buy over 200 Easter eggs in Tesco for patients in the Mater Hospital. After that we made Easter cards for the Mater’s patients.
Thursday: Thursday was really cool. We went to DCU Pats to help film an interview with Anne Looney for the volunteering portfolios. She did it in practically one take which was mental. She is a very interesting person who has accomplished incredible things in her career. Next, we visited the well room in Pats which is really fascinating. It’s a virtual escape from reality helping you reconnect with your spiritual self.
Friday: It’s Friday now as we’re writing this but we’re heading to Ikea later to buy some furniture for Leo Street’s garden. We’ll also be capping the week off with a lovely meal in Ikea so that should be good craic.
Overall we really enjoyed our week here in Localise. It was a good insight into the work done here and we’ll definitely be coming back for future projects. Thanks to everyone in Localise for a great week!
