Since 2002, Clondalkin Localise, part of the national Localise Youth Volunteering network, has been a quiet but powerful force for good in the Clondalkin community. Though small in number, this dedicated group of youth volunteers has consistently shown up for their neighbours, proving that age is no barrier to leadership, empathy, and impact.

Over the years, Clondalkin Localise has built a strong track record of service. From organising community cleanups to running intergenerational events with the Monday Club and visiting residents in local nursing homes, these young people are committed to making Clondalkin a more connected and compassionate place.

Hearing the Unheard: A Story of Partnership and Purpose

In 2024, Clondalkin Localise launched Hearing the Unheard, an Erasmus+ Youth Participation Project that brings 20 years of partnership with St. Brid’s Unit, Peamount Healthcare, into the spotlight through a 30 minute documentary. St. Brid’s is a specialised neuro-disability unit, offering 24/7 care to people with complex neurological needs. For years, the young volunteers of Clondalkin Localise have built friendships with residents, staff, and families through shared parties, creative projects, seasonal gift-giving, and meaningful visits.

This project is about more than just reminiscing. It’s about amplifying unheard voices, those of the residents, families, healthcare workers, and the youth volunteers themselves. “Hearing the Unheard” gives young people a platform to reflect on the impact of their long-standing service partnership, while showcasing the importance of intergenerational connection and inclusive community building.

On Monday 19th May, Clondalkin Localise premiered their documentary in the Civic Theatre in Tallaght. A night of celebration, empathy, reflection and laughter was had by all.

A Local Story with Global Significance

Clondalkin Localise may be a single group in a single community, but their story echoes far beyond Dublin. It’s a testament to what happens when young people are trusted, empowered, and celebrated for their contributions. Projects like Hearing the Unheard remind us that empathy is powerful, that partnerships matter, and that youth voice is not only relevant, it’s essential.

As Localise continues to build a pan-European model of youth volunteering rooted in solidarity, participation, and civic identity, we celebrate the young volunteers of Clondalkin who are already leading the way.
