Last Wednesday, the Castleknock community group brought smiles, music, and warm companionship to residents of Nephin Nursing Home during a special volunteer visit that celebrated community spirit and the value of giving back.

Armed with instruments, energy, and big hearts, volunteers filled the nursing home with music and laughter. Residents sang along, shared stories, and enjoyed the uplifting atmosphere created by the young people and community members who came to spend time with them.

This visit was organised in partnership with Localise, a national organisation dedicated to empowering young people through meaningful acts of service. Localise places a strong emphasis on learning together through volunteerism—helping participants understand empathy, community needs, and the impact of small actions.

“Volunteering isn’t just about helping others; it’s about learning from one another,” said a Alice Regis from Localise “Days like this show how different generations can connect, grow, and make a positive difference together.”

Residents and staff at Nephin Nursing Home expressed their appreciation for the event, highlighting how important intergenerational activities are for wellbeing and social connection.

With more initiatives planned with the support of Localise, the Castleknock community group hopes to continue building bonds, sharing talents, and strengthening their community—one volunteer experience at a time.
